Melvyn is based in Torquay, Devon, but covers all areas of the South West into Cornwall,Dorset, and Somerset, and even beyond if required.
He recognise that a couples wedding day is one of the most important days in their lives, and it can be remembered at its best, time and time again, only through wonderful photographic images showing excitement and emotion.
As a discerning couple who only want the best, you should base your choice of wedding photographer on a premium product and service and not on merely cost alone ( although of course it is a factor)Therefore he only chooses to provide quality products both in terms of photographic prints and album presentation. Melvyn will only photograph one wedding per day, and therefore is available to provide photographs from the morning preparations through to the first dance as husband & wife in the evening if required.
My Photographic Style. Although I have had a passion for photography for a considerable time, I do move with the times and take on board all the new and revolutionary techniques & developments within the science of photography, and I do incorporate and develop those that I feel will enhance my photography. So I feel my style is certainly modern, but at the same time not completely loosing touch with those traditional techniques and styles that stand the test of time.
I do specialise in the modern reportage and candid style of photography which is so popular today, but at the same time I find that the majority of couples still like to see at least some of the more traditional shots, together with at least a few of the family groups (although I do like to get these over as quickly as possible so as not to spoil the flow and enjoyment of what is your day, not mine) But primarily it is your choice, and I am more than capable of adapting to your own requirements. I will always endeavour to capture the obvious thrill and excitement of your day and to tell the story of your special day with photographs that are both innovative and imaginative.
Albums There are very many wedding albums available on the market today, which vary according to personal taste and the budget you wish to spend. The albums I have selected to display my work I feel are of a very high quality in order to enhance my photography and also to provide you with an album that you will cherish and which will become a family heirloom that will last for generations. They fall into two basic styles the modern storybook style album that displays the images in a format which allows for the printing of images directly onto the pages and in any size right up to the full page size. This is the album range known as the "Storybook Albums" and are made by the top italian album manufacturer "Graphi Studio"
The pages are digitally designed and created by myself (many days extra work, but its worth it to see the finished result)and which tells the full story of your day.
The other style is the more traditional approach to presentation where each printed image is mounted onto the page separately, usually one image per page although sometimes two smaller ones, and viewed through the aperture of an overlay which borders the image. The albums I supply in this style are the high quality albums produced by the italian company "Mario Acerboni"
I feel that these two styles cover most peoples preferences, however if you have a different preference and a particular album in mind then I would be pleased to oblige.
THE WAY I WORK
I meet with all my clients at least once (Usually twice) I would also make myself familiar with all the venues for your wedding, looking out for suitable photographic locations within those venues.
On our first meeting I would be able to show you a full portfolio of my wedding photography, plus various styles of photographic presentation and albums.
During the period prior to your wedding consider the style of photographs you require, and any family/friends group shots you require. Then around one month prior to the wedding, I would plan to meet up with you again to discuss these matters and maybe take some pre-wedding photo's if desired. Another reason for these meetings is that on the day I would hope that by now we are friends, and that I will be attending to photographing a friends wedding, that way I know I will be able to obtain those precious relaxed expressions in your photographs.
During the day I will aim to carry out my task as unobtrusively as possible, and to blend in as just another guest. Even any group photo's should with minimal organisation be able to be obtained relatively quickly, so as not to spoil your enjoyment of your big day.
Following your return from honeymoon I will again meet with you, to present you with (after editing and post production) a proof slide-show of all the images taken at your wedding. Now is the best time to decide the best way to present the images selected for your album, and even though a style of album may have already been chosen prior to the wedding, you need not feel tied to this album selection until your final photographs go to print.
